I guess it's another one of those Austin-area places that is over-hyped and expensive. It was about $70 for two average-appetite adults and two kids.
The brisket is pretty good. The staff wasn't overly welcoming but seemed burnout by a long day. BBQ sauce was not at all what I was expecting as it was more of a Carolina style which doesn't really good with brisket or beef at all in my opinion. They really should have the option to have watery sauce vs more of Memphis/West Texas style.
Holy wow! Best BBQ I've ever had! You will be hard pressed to ever find a more authentic BBQ anywhere. These people have a real science behind it and have been working their craft since the 1950's with all the same equipment and recipies ever since. I live a few hundred miles from there and would honestly contemplate a trip out there just for some more!
Brisket is off the chart! Wow... Words cannot describe the taste. Sauce is not good, it's more like a broth than a sauce, but the meat doesn't need sauce. Be prepared to wait, sometimes the line is out the door, but it's worth it. Sausage is good too, but get there early because once it's gone it's gone!
The brisket was SO DRY and tasteless. Their BBQ sauce is like a soup broth. The potato salad was super vinegary. The jalapeno sausage casein was unbearable to chew. I was the only person in line and it took me about 6 minutes to get a brisket sandwich, potato salad and 1 sausage link. The lady seemed more concerned about me keeping my tray behind some mark on the counter than expeditiously serving me. I would never go back here. SO many better players for BBQ in Texas.
I was looking forward to eating at Louie Mueller', too, as my sister-in-law loves the joint, and it was featured on "The Daytripper".
Food was good, but not outstanding -- and we went there HUNGRY. Customer service was great. Great atmosphere.
